4-DAY ACTING MASTERCLASS

Raw Truth in Performance

KIM FARRANT SHARES RAW TRUTH:

Raw Truth is an advanced masterclass for professional actors and directors, led by acclaimed Australian film director and acting coach
Kim Farrant.

Truthful acting is what pierces the heart, blindsides the audience, and expands the imagination beyond its limits. Raw Truth is the actor’s and director’s most vital pursuit.

For actors, this masterclass illuminates where you may be emotionally blocked and equips you with powerful tools to access deeper layers of yourself — all in service of creating characters that resonate with authenticity and impact.

Masterclass includes:

Who should apply?

  • Scene Work. Actors work in pairs on specially selected scenes.
  • Detailed Script Analysis.
  • How to create greater meaning and visceral relationships to Objects, People, Places, Issues, Events and Time Frames.
  • How to find the subtext in a scene and differentiate it from Inner Monologue.
  • Unique Effective Tools on how to move through historical emotional blocks that prevent you from accessing all of your emotional and physical instrument in service of character.
  • Work intimately with polarity. Techniques to further find the depth and breadth, and masculine and feminine qualities in your characters.
  • Utilise somatic processes, including breathwork, movement, and sound — to unlock unconscious material and open greater access to your emotional and physical instrument.
  • Artistic Safety. How to embody a character from a place of truth and safety, in order to expand your range and capacity.

This is an advanced masterclass for actors and directors with industry experience or professional training.

All actors and directors perform a scene in the masterclass – not to create perfect scenes but to flush up your blocks so we can help clear them. English language fluency is required.

The masterclass will run from 9am – 6pm on day’s 1 to 3, and 9am to 9pm on day 4. Coffee and meal breaks are built in to the schedule. It is advised to keep these days completely free of other commitments and a day to integrate after completion.

Auditors partake in all group and individual exercises but do not perform any scene work. English language fluency is required.

Recent Testimonials

“Kim Farrant’s Raw Truth workshop is nothing short of transformational: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and artistically. Her guidance is extremely special and personal to each student. Unlike most coaches, Kim works on you, the person, before you, the actor. She merges spiritual growth with craft work, creating a safe and nurturing space for her students to release blocks getting in the way of their best work. Through Kim’s intuitive guidance and incredible peer support, I was able to access deep emotion in a powerful and sustainable way. I learned how to connect to my body, script, and scene partner more truthfully than ever before. The space Kim holds for each student to be vulnerable, is unmatched. Working with Kim is life-changing and the effects of her work continue far beyond the classroom. I can’t recommend this workshop enough to anyone ready to take their life, and career to new heights.”
NAT BUCHANAN (Furiosa Mad Max, Anyone But You, Prosper)

“I knew if I wanted to actually call myself and actor I’d have to train like a crazy man, so after 3 years at WAAPA and 1 year full-time at 16th street in Melbourne, I was so damn lucky to have met one of the most influential people in my life- Kim Farrant. Being extremely fortunate, Kim took my under her wing and I have to say taught me the bulk of what I know in my craft and why I can confidently say now, I’m a working actor. Not only arming me with the best acting techniques on offer at a global standard, Kim challenges you in a tough love way to tackle and overcome your deepest fears and blocks not only as an actor but as a person and in total honestly has helped me become a braver man who loves parts of him self now he would never dare embrace before meeting her. If you pass up an opportunity to work with this woman you are bloody foolish to be blunt, as she has not only changed my life and career, but I have been witness to the profound effect she has had on countless others. If you want actually go to work and dig deep, I could think of no better person to guide you through that journey with a big ass torch of compassion and self love to boot. Do yourself a favour…”
DAN HAMILL (Spartacus – House of Ashur, Love Child, House Husbands)

“I am so grateful for the experience I had with Kim and I will take any opportunity to learn from her again, without hesitation. It was two days, and I can’t believe it was only two days, but working with Kim had me reignited and refocused. I have a new relationship with the craft now and thats because of her. I spent three years at drama school and thought I knew my obstacles well and had overcome them – I was wrong. Kim holds space for an actor in a way that allows for the most honest, raw, and courageous work. In this environment, I was able to be honest with myself and face demons I didn’t even know I had. It was hard and I resisted, but having a force like Kim with me in the trenches, I was able to walk out of there feeling empowered. I now have a deeper understanding of who I am, how I operate and most importantly, why. She demystifies your blocks and gives you practical tools to not only break through them but conquer them. Kim also teaches the importance of self care, setting boundaries and keeping yourself safe as an artist, which is something I didn’t even realise I was missing. It’s easy to feel like you need to give yourself over to the work no matter the cost. And I used to think that if I wasn’t doing that I was somehow phoning it in. But I learned how to do the art justice without sacrificing yourself as a human being and for that I am forever grateful. Kim allowed me to be heard, both as a creative and a human being. She has this amazing pairing of nurturing, yet, tough-as-nails energy that will galvanise you to rise to the challenge. She will get the best work out of you. Do the masterclasses. It will be the best gift you could ever give to yourself as an actor.”
CHRISTINE MILO (Here out West, Zombie Plane, House of Bond)

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Kim for 5 years now and she has been an incredible teacher and mentor throughout that time. Kim has a relentless commitment to truth within the work. Her gentle and intuitive way of working create for such a safe and trusting environment for the actor to open up and access parts of themselves that were previously unexplored and, more often than not, unknown to even exist. I most recently worked with Kim in preparation for a role and her guidance throughout the process, like always, was incredible. Kim gives you practical tools to utilise in the rehearsal space and when on set to call upon to ground you in the raw truth of the moment so that you can give a deeply connected performance. Kim’s work is not only development within the craft but a deeper discovery into oneself – the growth takes place as both artist and human being and you cannot walk away from a session with her without feeling empowered, excited and more deeply connected with a truer sense of self. Thank you Kim!”
STEPH PANOZZO (Home & Away, The Newsreader, Hyde and Seek, Hell Patrol)

“I worked with Kim prior to filming my supporting role as Kina opposite Daniel Radcliffe in ‘Jungle’ (Director: Greg McClean – Wolfcreek) and my goodness, am I glad I did. Not only did Kim help me to become more emotionally available under pressure and give me the tools to do it over and over again multiple times a day, but she did it in a way that made me feel safe, was easily accessible and came from an extremely real place. Kim made me feel more empowered than I ever have creatively as a woman, artist and sexual being and I feel has helped immensely with balancing my sensuality, vulnerability and strength. My inner child is filled with joy every time I get to work with Kim, whether I am laughing or crying, we are in it together as a team to serve our art…and it really is just pure joy. I feel blessed to have Kim in my life and anyone that gets to be in her presence creatively whether it be as a director or a coach is extremely lucky. My heart, soul and every creative fibre in my being is filled with gratitude for the time I get to spend with Kim. I encourage any actor that wants to bring depth to their work, feed their soul and grow, to work with Kim and see for yourselves the transformative effects of her guidance. :)”
